:::Linen Pants and Sandals Make the Ladies Go 'Hey!':::

I take great comfort in knowing that regardless of what happens on Lost, it --

1. Isn't real.
2. Doesn't represent the Lord's plan.
3. Is almost over.

That being said, in an alternate reality I'd gladly throw in with either one of these Hottie Mcdotties.

:::Wibble-Wabble:::

As requested, here is a video of Scott at last Monday's skating lesson. On a funny scale of 1 to 10, this is only about a 4, but there's some comedic footwork at the end that should make you giggle.

:::Up In the Air, Flat On the Ice:::

Thanks to everyone for the nice comments on my last post!

Yesterday I arrived in Texas at 8:30 am. That means that my flight from DC left at 6:00 am, which means that I had to be at the airport at 5:00 am, which means that my cab had to come at 4:40 am. Mark my words -- I will never take a 6:00 am flight again. Amen.

The movie shown during the flight was 'Up In the Air.' It. was. fantastic. I might even call it the best movie that I've ever seen. The acting from the entire cast was superb. The writing was wonderful, realistic, and well-paced, and the directing was just perfect. It changed my life, which I was not expecting, and you might not expect based on the plot of the movie. I still can't figure out exactly why the film impacted me so much, but it did and I'm so glad I could see an edited version of it. I only wish it wasn't rated R in real life.

Last night we went to Scott's first 'hockey' lesson. Really, it's just a hockey skating class since they have to pass three prerequisite classes before they even attempt playing hockey. Watching his beginner class skate was one of the funniest things that I have ever witnessed. The kids were dropping like lead zeppelins all over the place.

Scott was struggling a bit because he's never been on the ice before, so he got to use a special PVC walker to help him along the way.

That only upped the comedic factor a million fold. You should have seen him shuffling along the ice with his little helmet on. My stomach muscles were sore from laughing so much.

He was having a great time with it and thought it was hilarious every time he crashed and burned.

All of the coaching staff is from Australia (are they related?), and are so nice. The head hockey coach called the boys 'men' each time he addressed the group. 'Come on, men! Get up!' 'Come on, men! We can do it!'

Towards the end of the lesson the assistant coach took The Little Master's walker away and tried to make him skate on his own. I think he picked up on the fact that the Master was developing a strong affinity for his cool toy and wasn't seeing it as a temporary learning tool.

More comedy ensued. This is Buddy 'skating' towards the wall on his own.

While we were watching Scott's class there were a few ice skating classes running on the other side of the rink. Sophie said she wanted to learn how to ice skate one day, so my sister took her over to the information desk to learn more about future classes.

The next time I saw them Sophie was lacing up to join a class that was also meeting for the first time that week. She was over the moon that her dream had been fulfilled so quickly.

She had her fair share of falls as well, but Sophie is one of those kids who pulls on your heart strings all of the time, so her spills were more Tiny Tim sad and less Lucille Ball funny.

Molly was surprisingly well-behaved the entire time. Thank heavens.

When she wasn't running around the bleachers she was petitioning to be held so she could see her siblings.

Gold star for sticking out an hour of practice, Momma.

:::It's Party Time!:::

Best time ever. I tell you what, when there is dancing on the program, East Coast people (or maybe it's just non-Mormons?) actually get up and dance -- younger, older, couples, singles, those with rhythm and those without. It was awesome. The dance floor drew more and more people as the night went on. Nothing is better than going out on there and letting loose with the music while singing along loudly with the band. We had a crazy good time.

We danced until midnight, then people sort of dissipated to after parties or to pick up their cars from the valet service. My friend Lindsay and I chillaxed in the lobby while she waited for the taxi line to dwindle down, then I went back to my room and watched tv on my giant flat screen until 2 am.

I'm so glad I stayed over. It was totally worth it to be able to get ready at the venue and not worry about being late. It was also nice to have a landing spot to ditch my shoes and other things as the night wore on, and to not think about traveling home (even though I live like 10 minutes away) once the party was over.

This morning I woke up, took a bath in the big tub, ate the chocolate covered strawberries I took from the party last night, cleaned up my gigantic mess, then ordered room service (not good) and watched more tv. It's so nice to have tv every once in a while.

I stayed in my room until 30 minutes before check-out, then I took a cab down Pennsylvania back to the Hill.
On the way home I saw some protesters far away on the Capitol lawn that were a mix of Tea Cuppers and immigration proponents. I wonder how they got along...

As soon as I got back into my room I cleared off my bed and crashed for many hours. I'll probably be up all night, but that's okay because tomorrow I'm catching a 6 am flight to Texas. Yeehaw!

:::Sunday Testimony -- March 21, 2010:::

I've been meaning to write this post for a few weeks now, but I hadn't been able to find the right words until this morning.

I have realized lately how much I love my life. It's just wonderful. There are so many things that annoy me, many difficult trials, and more heartbreaks than I care to think of, but I love my life. I get to do so many amazing things, and have had so many personally held wishes and dreams fulfilled that I know, without doubt, that the Lord understands and values both the big and small contents of my heart and soul. He has taken such excellent care of me, and I'm very grateful for His never ending love.

I'm also enormously appreciative of all the effort that He goes through in order to care for me and to guide my life. I am overwhelmed by the enormity of His love and involvement in the lives of all of Heavenly Father's children. His is the Supreme Architect, and I am truly thankful that He has the ability and the desire to lovingly govern over the details of all of our lives in order to fulfill Heavenly Father's eternal plan.

:::Let The Great Experiment Begin!:::

I always swore that I'd never get myself ready for a formal event. Too stressful. I always swore that instead I'd pay beauticians, aestheticians, magicians, to do there thing and make me presentable. Oh well.

Tomorrow is my big work party. I had to start my preparations tonight since I'm trying to keep the related primping costs down by doing everything myself. I did splurge and get my face waxed (it only cost me $30! Wahoo!), but that's really a general life necessity so we're not going to count that.

The thing is, I don't do formal. I like the way I that look without makeup, so I prefer to spend most of my existence at or very near that state of being. But, needs must.

I spent a few painful hours at the mall last night trying to buy new underpinnings (a total bust [punny!]), and some new makeup (semi-bust) based on an inspiration picture I found on le internets. It's been a while since I vamped myself up, so we'll see how that goes. I'm not adventurous makeup wise, but I know what looks good on me and I trust myself so it shouldn't be too bad.

Nevertheless, this is how I feel tonight at the prospect of all the primping ahead of me...

So much to do in such a short amount of time.

My dismay is quickly turning into fear and panic.

Step 1: Prepare hair for flat ironing in the morning.

I have no idea why my teeth look so yellow. My teeth are not yellow.

Step 2: Give self a vigorous foot de-roughing.

I put too much bubble bath in the tub so it started overflowing with suds once I turned it on. I had to pull my trash can over and start bailing out bubbles in order to avert a disaster.

It got out of hand for a while there.

I lost my stamina at the end of my foot adventure, so I'll be doing to nail filling and painting tomorrow. That also leaves for tomorrow...

Shaving
Flat ironing my hair
Giving myself a manicure
Biore-stripping my nose
Packing my bag for the hotel (I'm staying the night!)
Curling my hair
Rolling my hair
Shimmering/Bronzing my legs
Putting on makeup
Styling hair

Mama.

I think I might just spend the entire night in my room and not go to the party at all.
