' i resolve to take more self-portraits while trying new things'

my new thing? well, today i saw a new president inaugurated. today i stood witness as a new page was written in the history books. i was far, far away on judea's plains, but i was there.

here are my best shots of the jumbo-tron near me...

{president-elect obama walking out to the swearing in area}

{VICE PRESIDENT biden being sworn in}

{PRESIDENT obama inspiring the crowd and the nation}

and now i need to go de-thaw.

I'm jealous that you were there! I was on the reference desk during the inauguration, so I was watching the video with the sound off, but I just read the acceptance speech online and almost cried at my desk. Hurray for today!

We watched it and when the spanned the crowd, I told the kids, "LOOK there's Aunti Bekah!" I pointed randomly to someone in the crowd fast enough that they wouldnt know I was making it up. They were really impressed. Scott said, "She like Mobomma?" (that's what he called Obama.) Sophie said, "That's a lot of people. Is she squished?"

tell sophie i was squished! when i was trying to leave the monument we almost had a trampling situation because the people behind kept pushing us but we weren't moving.

the crowds were insane. i have no idea how all those people are going to get back on the metro. there weren't any signs directly people and even i couldn't have found my way to a stop with all the roads being blocked the way they were. plus, i heard cap south and union were exit only and i don't think most people realized they wouldn't be able to get on the way they had got off. yikes.

I'm so glad you went. Thank you for representing our family! This is a wonderful day! Natalee put on her xmas dress and said because it is a special day we should dress special! I told her you were there and we thought of you all day. Great memories! Now go thaw out!

I'm glad you ended up going. We were watching this morning, and I kept thinking, "Is she really not going to go?" So good for you.

Clara really dug the inauguration. She kept saying, "Where's Obama, Mommy?" And then we would point him out, and she'd say, "What's that?" And we'd say, "That's President Obama." And she just looked at us like we were crazy. I'm not sure she totally made the link that Obama was a person.

(By the way, is it just me, or did Obama have that "I just vomited" look when he was walking out of the building onto the dais? That must be some kind of pressure. And Michelle did look class-ay.)

What a great SPT! I'm pretty that was the perfect SPT for Inauguration Day. I'm so excited for this new beginning, and what it means for our country. Can't you just feel the hope and the excitement in the air? I've got a renewed sense of pride for my country. How great that you got to be there in person to experience it!
